In 1991 the City of Westlake Mayor Dennis Clough and our founding sponsor, St. John West Shore Hospital, agreed to host a five-mile charity run in Westlake, Ohio. Since 1991, Celebrate Westlake has raised over 1.4 million dollars for local charities such as Westlake D.A.R.E., Far West Center, Westlake Dept. of Senior & Community Services, SJWS Cancer Care Initiative, SJWS Community Outreach and Wellness Ministry program, University Hospitals Woman's Health Center and more. Over the years, Celebrate Westlake has become an annual community event, comprised of such events as a 5-mile run, 3-mile walk, and a kids fun run. Free food and refreshments are provided for participants and spectators. Music and children's activities make it a fun day for the entire family.

Course
Run and Walk start at Health Campus Drive on Center Ridge Road, pass through Metropark, and back. Kids Fun Run starts and is held on the Hospital Fitness Trail. Children's 6 & under will run one lap (1/2 miles). Course is USATF Certified.


Kid's Fun Run
There are four (4) age divisions within the kid's fun run:

  • Eleven through thirteen year olds - one mile
  • Nine through ten years olds - one mile
  • Seven and eight year olds - one mile
  • Six and under - half mile

Kid's Run Information:

  • All races are run on the health campus trail
  • All participants receive a medal
  • The top three boys and girls in each age division receive a trophy
  • Goody bag for all participants (frisbee, hat, coupons, candy)
  • The race is free and a t-shirt may be purchased
  • Pre-race entertainment (face painting, clowns, balloon making)
  • Kids run starts after the adult run

Awards
NEW!! $1000 to overall Male and Female AND BONUS $1000 cash award to the overall Male and Female winners for breaking the course record. Current 5 Mile Run Course Records: 23:27 (M) 26:21 (F) (Ceremony at approx. 11:00 am)

5 Mile Run: $1000 cash award to overall male and female winners, $400 for 2nd, $300 for 3rd, $200 for 4th and $100 for 5th.

Master's Division: age 40-49 cash award of $300 to overall male & female.

Grand Master's Division: age 50 and over award of $200 to overall male and female.

Awards to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each age division.

3.4 Mile Walk: Awards to top three overall male and female winners in each of the three age categories (50 & under, 51-64, 65 & over).

Kids Fun Run (Ages 13 & under): Top 3 boys and girls in each division. Awards to all finishers!
